What is this web site about anyway?
About This Web Site
Back way back when the world wide web got popular (outside of universities) more of the general population started setting up their personal web sites. I had one in about 1999 I think, maybe earlier. I soon realised that search engines were finding my surname in the site and this could be a good way to find other Penvers of the world?
If you are a Penver, you're probably used to getting post with your name spelt wrong, phone calls asking for Denver, Pender, Peever, etc. Annoying isn't it! And the same with search engines suggesting you have spelt your own name wrong. All this is going to change because I've got this web site and our name is becoming a proper word to Google at last!
The most popular way of finding out about your family is now the internet, and no doubt you've tried it. You search on places like friendsreunited and facebook, as these are free. I thought it would be easier if I gave us a simpler way of finding us all in one place. I registered penver.com in 2007 I think, and stuck up a simple page of contacts. In September 2008 I've made it look a little more *exciting* and here I am trying to explain why. The more references to Penver I can slap on a web site, the higher the chance of another Penver finding it.
Of course once you find penver.com, and if you are a Penver, you might want to contact other Penvers? Well that's what the email accounts are about. I'm lucky enough to have my own web design company, so at no significant cost to myself I got the domain name, created this web site and set up an email post office. If you want to get yourself on the list of Penvers, just get in touch and I'll get you added. There's no charge and hopefully it won't result in someone spamming your account!
About Jeff Penver

Jeff Penver at work, September 2008
I was first introduced to the internet in 1991. It was a dark place, mostly green text on black backgrounds. There was no world wide web to use, just ftp servers and telnet servers. I was off chatting to people all around the world, and Pugwash was hitting Odin with imaginary light sabres causing imaginary damage.
Today my home is wired to broadband. I have gigabit ethernet through my office out the back and numerous wi-fi gadgets around the home. I can browse the internet from a laptop down the garden or my mobile phone in the shed, should I get that urge.
During the day I can be found coding away at new and wonderful web sites, listening to music (streamed of course) from development HQ of Web Space Invaders, a.k.a. a small village in Lincolnshire, England.
